HIDDEN GEM
Elizabeth Spencer Winery

Just returned from a whirlwind trip to Napa Valley with my daughter, and wanted to be sure to share a fave spot of mine I’m so happy I got to visit again in my brief time there. I’ve mentioned before that my dad works in the wine industry, so I’m very fortunate that he introduces me to new and perhaps lesser known wineries every time I come up. Elizabeth Spencer may be small in size, but believe me, big in flavor and ambiance! The unassuming brick facade across from Rutherford Grill hides an intimate, vineyard-side outdoor courtyard that you’ll never want to leave. I highly recommend you make a reservation the next time you’re in town…

DAY/NIGHT TRIP
Coachella Style

small shop: Palm Springs Coachella style day/night trip

Happy Friday! A last minute decision to head out to Palm Springs today for a Harper’s Bazaar party at The Parker, and dinner at my client Workshop Kitchen + Bar! Therefore, I had to pull what I had out of my closet and no time for shopping for something shiny and new. Boo! But I knew I didn’t want to show up at my client’s restaurant looking like I stepped off the lawns, so I’m trying to be smart about it by just changing up my accessories for the evening. I’m a huge fan of the romper — always so versatile and hip! So all in all, it will go a little something like this…

SNAPSHOTS
‘Ohana Time

Aloha! As I mentioned, I’m spending some quality ‘ohana (family) time in Hawaii for my grandfather’s 90th birthday. It’s been wonderful and truly memorable thus far — a little break from the real world. A few snippets of life at a beach house in Kahala (rough, I know)…

HAUTE HAWAII
#DVFlovesROXY

Since I’m headed to Hawaii next week for my grandfather’s 90th birthday, the DVF swimwear collection for Roxy is really speaking to me right now — two faves rolled up into one. I grew up on the North Shore of Oahu where the surfing culture figures prominently in daily life. Girls didn’t really surf back then, so it especially warms my heart to see two local surfer girls (Monyca Byrne Wickey and Kelia Moniz) as the models for the campaign. I thought it was quite fitting for Diane von Furstenberg — who is all about highlighting a woman’s strengths — to use beautiful, confident, real wahine. Surfer chic done right, if you ask me…

CLUTCH SHOT
Paris Fashion Week Street Style

Street style at the fashion week shows has gotten as popular as the runway shows themselves it seems; and some of my favorite images coming off the byway are the vignette shots. Something about the textures, colors, hardware, bling…all in one. And how it’s anonymous, so you can almost see yourself strutting your own stuff in that shot, right? Here are a few featured prominently in my own fantasies…

L.A. ART + FASHION
Gucci Spring 2013

Being an Art History grad from UCLA, I felt nostalgic and kinda proud when I spotted this editorial for Vogue Spain shot at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Using art as backdrop, and creating art with form (a.k.a. model Karlie Kloss), it’s a sculpturally striking homage that photographer Alexi Lubomirski pays to Gucci’s Spring 2013 collection and the collections housed here at LACMA…

MIAMI BAROQUE
The Man, The Muse

The Eden Roc Miami by architect Morris Lapidus, 1955

I’m over at La Dolce Vita today with a new “Design Under the Influence” where I’m celebrating the man behind the original Fontainebleu, The Americana and Eden Roc hotels in Miami Beach: architect Morris Lapidus.

He once said of his intentions when guests walked into his hotels that he ”wanted people to walk in and drop dead.” Now that’s a design statement!

Enjoy!

MIAMI LOVIN’
& 5 Things I Didn’t Realize

Now that I’ve recovered, it’s time for a Miami recap! I had an amazing time! Between lazy breakfast buffets poolside at our hotel, jogs along the boardwalk, lounging at the beach, and late night adventures in dining and dancing, it was a great trip!

5 THINGS I DIDN’T REALIZE ABOUT MIAMI…
