GIVING BACK
6 Designers Doing It Right

I loved stumbling upon an article about six very well-known fashion designers and the ways in which they give back. I think it’s important that even in the image-obsessed world of high fashion, the leaders of the pack are paving the way for others to follow suit, charitably, and with grace. Let’s celebrate these very busy people that find the time in their very busy lives to step back, see the bigger picture, and strive to contribute their small part (summarized)…

NATASHA LAW
Sensuality in Simplicity

I was thrilled to learn that artist Natasha Law’s paintings are on exhibit at the MaxMara store in Beverly Hills right now! I’ve been a fan of her work for many years (probably since I saw Sara Gilbane’s workspace in Domino?), so the opportunity to see these large-scale Pop Art-like pieces in person would be, most likely, once in a lifetime for me.

Law’s exhibit titled “Inside Out” features women in the act of undressing — awkward yet intriguing, raw yet feminine, abstract yet suggestive…and thoroughly modern. Law says of her subjects, “It’s become really important for me that I work with my friends as models, as the resonance of that affection and relationship is hopefully there. There is some quality of real, everyday female ‘whatness’ that I don’t get tired of exploring.”

Here’s a sampling of her work…

(Please note: there is artistic suggestion of nudity in a few of the images below)

SEAN O’PRY
Male Model of the Moment

How about a little eye candy today? Shall we?

Let’s forget the fact that I’m old enough to be his mother for a sec (a young mother, but still…) so that I can introduce you to the current boy wonder, if you haven’t already been acquainted. Despite a striking resemblance to an Italianate marble statue, Sean O’Pry originally hails from Georgia and was discovered while still in high school, just after his girlfriend dumped him before prom. His debut: opening the fall 2007 YSL show in Paris, after which he quickly became the face of Calvin Klein and Giorgio Armani (among others), was named the world’s most successful male model of 2009 by Forbes, and as of February 2013, topped the models.com list of the Top 50 international male models…

BIKER CHIC
Kate Moss for Matchless

I’m conceptualizing a new brand for a client, and this campaign featuring Kate Moss (a.k.a. the ageless wonder) could not be more perfect. Straddling Marlon Brando’s Matchless motorbike, she’s the epitome of sexy, sultry, rocker chic. Seriously can’t wait to see the rest of it, but until then, we get a peek behind the scenes with seasoned photographer Terry Richardson…

ART IN RESIDENCE
Maria Baibakova’s Miami Loft

I’ve been checking Bazaar.com every day waiting for these photos from last month’s issue to appear! Jaw = dropped when I first saw this gallery-like Miami penthouse of collector Maria Baibakova. Not only does this Moscow-born beauty know a thing or two about style, she’s smart to boot: art history degrees from Barnard and London’s Courtauld Institute of Art, and she’s about to complete her MBA at Harvard. But I think what I love most about this savvy 27 year-old is that she continually strives to promote art education, innovation and support through charitable efforts and her own non-profit, BAIBAKOV Art ProjectsNow that’s a cause I can get behind…

OFFICE LUST
Aerin Lauder

You’ve probably seen some of the photos of the über sophisticated AERIN offices floating around. I haven’t been able to get them out of my head, so I thought maybe, just maybe, if I put them here, they’ll be out of my system…not working…

MIAMI BAROQUE
The Man, The Muse

The Eden Roc Miami by architect Morris Lapidus, 1955

I’m over at La Dolce Vita today with a new “Design Under the Influence” where I’m celebrating the man behind the original Fontainebleu, The Americana and Eden Roc hotels in Miami Beach: architect Morris Lapidus.

He once said of his intentions when guests walked into his hotels that he ”wanted people to walk in and drop dead.” Now that’s a design statement!

Enjoy!

STYLE COVET
Aimee Song

I was thrilled to see designer and fashion blogger Aimee Song of Song of Style on The Coveteur recently! We knew her closet would be amazing, but how much do we adore her home too? Her dining room is blowing my mind! Serious style…

GIRL CRUSH
Peony Lim

I’ve been a fan of Peony Lim‘s street style for a while — she just seems to make it all look so effortless and natural (and now I am really wishing I had studied these photos before my own street style shoot!)….ahh to be young and invincible…

GLOBES GOWNS 2013
My Top 5 Picks

I thoroughly enjoyed the Golden Globes last night!  Tina Fey and Amy Poehler killed it, and I felt in general that all the leading ladies stole the show.

On to dresses…these are my top choices of the night! Agree? Disagree?
