I SURVIVED
My First Juice Cleanse
(and You Can Too!)

5 REASONS WHY IT’S TOTALLY WORTH IT

In my last “MomME Files” post I mentioned I was going to kick off my summer with a 3-day juice cleanse from Ritual Wellness. I just completed it and have to say, it was easier than I thought! Granted, I don’t eat a lot of junk as it is, and when I do, I do it right (gourmet burgers and microbrews for me!). But even still, here are my five reasons why doing a juice cleanse was definitely worth my while…

“The MomME Files” #2:
Work It Out, Work It In

Happy Friday! It’s going to be a beautiful weekend here — officially the start of summer, woo hoo! But seeing how May is Women’s Health Month, I figured a diet and exercise post dedicated to all you moms and busy women out there was definitely in order!

I am often asked how I got back in shape, post-baby — I’m here to tell you, I have no idea. Kidding! Seriously though, it’s nothing drastic, and forever a work in progress. I ran track and played collegiate soccer so I’ve always been fairly active, but when I hit 30, my metabolism slowed big time. Fast forward “a few” years later, two knee surgeries, a baby, and suddenly I realized: there really isn’t going to be a “perfect” time to take better care of myself, so I might as well start somewhere. What did I/do I do? I’m by no means a personal trainer or nutritionist, but here’s some of what has worked for me… and as always, I’d love to hear what works for you!

GIVING BACK
6 Designers Doing It Right

I loved stumbling upon an article about six very well-known fashion designers and the ways in which they give back. I think it’s important that even in the image-obsessed world of high fashion, the leaders of the pack are paving the way for others to follow suit, charitably, and with grace. Let’s celebrate these very busy people that find the time in their very busy lives to step back, see the bigger picture, and strive to contribute their small part (summarized)…

SNAPSHOTS
‘Ohana Time

Aloha! As I mentioned, I’m spending some quality ‘ohana (family) time in Hawaii for my grandfather’s 90th birthday. It’s been wonderful and truly memorable thus far — a little break from the real world. A few snippets of life at a beach house in Kahala (rough, I know)…

“The MomME Files” #1:
Dress to Impress Yourself

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5

Motherhood begins when you first start trying to conceive a child. You make changes in your life for the sake of a little one, but often we as women neglect our own needs for years (some, a lifetime). I personally don’t think it needs to be so black and white, and I strive for balance — I know that I am a better role model for my daughter if I am happy and have my own sense of self going on. So although I blushed and chuckled when asked by readers about my post-baby beauty and diet “tricks”, I realized there are little things that I’ve done to give myself “ME” back (and I bet you have too!). And then I thought, hey, great series for the blog! So, welcome to the first installment of “The MomME Files”…

CARTAS DE AMOR
Best Valentine’s Ever!

While I was out, MadeByGirl’s Jen Ramos launched an endearing and adorable collection of love letters from 18 bloggers, together titled “Cartas de Amor.” Obviously I am just thrilled to have been asked to participate! I decided to include a little collage that my daughter put together for me, above. Click over to read why, and see everyone else’s heartfelt contributions!

Jen has also included lots of gorgeous gift ideas, from books to art and accessories. Do check it out!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS
and Thank You

I cannot thank you enough for the past 2+ years of keeping up with me and my ramblings! It has been a wonderful experience and I hope to bring you more useful inspiration in 2013!

I also get to put on my Santa hat and give MeaganS (chosen by random.org) the Lulu & Georgia rug! Congrats! Thank you everyone that entered! You’ve encouraged me to make sure I provide more great giveaway opportunities next year as well.

A million thank you’s for a fantastic 2012 (and counting)!

‘TIS THE SEASON
of Charitable Giving!

I think most of us can say, growing up, we were able to celebrate the holidays in a loving home. But there are too many kids in our very own communities without families, food and shelter.

This is why I choose to volunteer, and this year, I’ve been giving the little free time I do have to help organize a 4-day charity fundraiser starting tomorrow at the Hilton Costa Mesa that will benefit amazing organizations like Second Harvest Food Bank, Orangewood Children’s Foundation, Down Syndrome Foundation of OC, Raise Foundation and more!

I am really hoping I can get some of you out there to come join me! Because let me tell you, we have worked so tirelessly to put together some really fun ways to make us all feel good about giving back…

SAFE & SOUND?
Good, Now Help!

I hope you all had a great Halloween! My little one had a blast being Minnie for a day (clearly!).

But today, I’d like to encourage everyone to donate $10 to the Red Cross’ Disaster Relief for those that did not get to enjoy Halloween like we did yesterday. (It’s $10, we can do it! Skip those two lattes.)

I don’t know what I’d do if I didn’t have a home to take this munchkin back to and tuck in bed, safe and sound.

Thinking of you all on the East Coast!
