Please welcome Naomi of Design Manifest!
Today I’m calling on one of my daily favorites for “a little help from my friends.” Naomi is equally busy if not busier than I am lately, so I doubly appreciate her taking the time to create this beautiful post for us! You may have seen her featured her before, but I’ll say it again anyway…Naomi is a true professional and helps run her family’s design/build business, so she really knows her stuff. On Design Manifest, you’ll find images that inspire, helpful tips, new resources, and a style that is very Naomi (and very me!) like the below. She’s got it going on, people!
Why hello Small Shop Enthusiasts. I’m Naomi from Design Manifest and I’m pleased as punch to take over blogging duties for Erika today. When she asked me to put something together, I immediately thought of her fantastic post she did a few months back on “Boho Glam.” If you asked me to define my style in three words or less, its Modern Bohemian Glamour all the way.
I think the key a mod-glam-boho pad is that its eclectic and collected yet also cohesive. How do you mix it up but not take it too far? Pick a few key elements and repeat them.
I recently completed the decoration of my apartment and I noticed a few elements I repeated over and over again. Here are my essential design elements:
Whether you are wanting a whimsical touch or a splash of Hollywood Regency a little faux-bamboo adds a bit of zesty personality to a space.
Both organic and bold at the same time there is something about an animal accent that drives me wild. Do it big or do it small- I actually find the small touches make the biggest impact.
Gold. Because we all deserve just a bit of decadence in our lives. And its shiny. (Essential to mix textures- rough, shiny, soft…)
No room should be all wood or all lacquer. Mix it up. I happen to like my wood rustic. Something about that rough juxtaposed with smooth gets me every time.
Every room needs a dash of black. No exceptions. Black makes anything more glamorous.
So there you have it: Faux Bamboo, Animal Accents, Gold, Woody and Black. I have two or more of each of these in my apartment and I love the way they play off of each other. Mix in a little color and pattern and you have yourself your own personal paradise.
Thanks so much for having me Erika. Happy Decorating!

I absolutely love Naomi’s eclectic taste!! This is definitely the recipe for a gorgeous home!
Naomi is brilliant- adore every single one of these gorgeous elements- especially the gold and animal prints!!
I love all of these – Naomi has fantastic taste. The animal accents, touch of black, and GOLD frosting are probably my favorites. xo
Oh, Naomi, it’s all so painfully chic. Beautiful collection of images!
As I was reading through all her elements I was like, check, check, check…. Woo hoo. I passed the test.
Love Nay Nay’s stile.
LOVE. Every photo in this post was like it was carefully curated for me! The third photo in the Dash of Black series is pretty much my dream living room. Amazing post, Naomi!
I love Naomi’s style, it’s very similar to my own. Such a great post and I’m so happy to find a new blog to read!
Fabulous roundup! Naomi’s pad is super chic, so she definitely knows what she’s talking about!
Gotta get me some bamboo.
Naomi is absolutely bril! If she lived closer, I would force her to be my bff!
I heart Naomi! I’ve got some elements I need to add to my pad to glamorize it! Thanks!
I’ve been searching for faux bamboo at estate sales for a while. I love all the images you rounded up–keeping my fingers crossed!
haha, this is my style to a tee! (though i might swap out animal print for “ethnic print” like a suzani or something…but I still love a good leopard or zebra print!)
i’m in india for the year and one of the things i’m looking most forward to when moving home is decorating a new apartment from scratch. you can be certain it will include all of the aforementioned (faux bamboo, black, wood…) in abundance! (funny, i would have never called my style boho or glam though….)
awesome post!
I came across your website awhile ago but just recently took the time to go through all of your past posts.
I can’t begin to explain how similar our personal design taste is. The farther I read into this post the more I felt like you were taking the words right out of my mouth.
You have a way with words and your blog is inspiring.
I am about to start design school in the fall of 2012 and I can promise you that this blog will be a must read for me from now on.
[...] yet so chic and homey! I asked Naomi to come back and tell us specifically how she applied her boho glam formula to her own pad, to teach us a thing or [...]
I just saw this post and I love EVERY SINGLE IMAGE. Pinning all of them. Thanks so much Naomi and Erika!
