THIS is how you do it…
Have you noticed that design mags have been littered (literally) with gallery walls lately? After seeing a lot of not-so-successful examples, I was starting to feel like “cluttered must equal good” – until I saw Elizabeth Sullivan of Modern 24/7′s post yesterday of her client’s bubblegum pink bedroom, complete with an enviable floor-to-ceiling art display. It reminded me that I HAVE seen great examples, so I decided to gather them up for review. In my humble opinion, I think these work really well. You?

This photo inspired an entire office scheme for me back in 2007!
Although now I like the look of varied frame styles & art types…
These examples inspired me to try a gallery wall in my new office scheme, using the painting I purchased from artist Erin Ashley as a centerpiece. I thought I’d add in one of Leighton’s paintings from this past weekend, maybe one of mine, perhaps that piece I framed of hers, plus a vintage Vogue illustration, and a quick sketch I did of the Trevi Fountain in Rome in 2003. I’ll find more to add I’m sure. Fun project, I’ll let you know how it goes!

Gallery/Parlour walls are fantastic! When done tastefully
One of mine is a collection of canvases I bought on E-bay peppered with a couple of framed silk papers, it makes me happy!
Do you have your wall up on your blog? Post the link for us!

Looks soooo good! I love the pieces you chose too. Very delicate.
What color is your wall? Looks like what I have in my office, “Forde Abbey”.
Thank you Erika! It’s a huge wall, so I might add a couple more to the right and below the shell to run into the bar area. But then again, that might be too much, a bit overwhelming to the eye.
Grey? I have no idea, this is a rental, I was just happy to see some grey walls here!
Thanks, sweetie! I love me some Nate Berkus (hate the tv show
) and Angie Hranowsky. All of those are gorg! I know yours will look amazing…

Really? I’ve only seen it once. I remember reading on a blog that he invited a whole audience of design bloggers but didn’t mention once in the episode. Do you think they’re just getting the hang of it still? I did DVR the DVF episode yesterday but haven’t watched yet.
Your timing in my life couldn’t be more perfect. We want to do a photo/gallery wall in our long hallway similar to what the Novogratz’s (Sixx Design) did on 24 Thompson “re-do.” Love it.

Just checked the link…love it! I think the trick is finding frames that are similarly sized (but with some variety), and not making it too grid-like. Let me know how it turns out!
Having fun poking around your blog! I also did a post on gallery walls a little while ago if you want to get more ideas: http://bjdhausdesign.blogspot.com/2011/02/gorgeous-gallery-walls.html
